2020 President's Messages

March 2020 FHPW President’s Letter:

Last month, we enjoyed a very special opportunity for Networking with the leaders of all the FHPW member organizations at our annual Leadership Forum focusing this year on 2020 vision. On Monday, February 10th, our FHPW Immediate Past President and other member organizations’ leaders brought their organization’s vision to review as well as the elements that make a good vision statement. We had breakouts where we brainstormed how to renew the FHPW vision to better serve our member organizations. We need your input to allow FHPW to help you achieve your visions and will bring a new Federation vision statement for consideration at our April 27th quarterly meeting.

On March 31st, we had been looking forward to Networking at our first educational lunch n learn of the year; however, we will turn the event into a virtual one that you can enjoy from the safe distance of your computer. Since no lunch will be served by FHPW, you can enjoy the virtual meeting at a reduced rate and provide you own snacks while you watch via Zoom. If you haven’t tried Zoom before, we will provide some information about how to use it to everyone who registers to attend at www.fhpw.org.

Next month, we are hoping we will be able to meet again in person at our 2nd Quarterly Meeting of 2020 on Monday, April 27th, for our fabulous panel of speakers on publishing your story because “Your Story Matters!” Details of this event and registration are already on our website, plus you can put your member organization’s events (or rescheduling notices) on our FHPW website calendar. We are also Encouraging you to promote your events at our next quarterly meeting “Minute at the Mic.”

Also available on the website is the nomination information for each organization to submit an outstanding member for the Woman of Excellence award so we can give them Recognition at our annual awards gala on September 26, 2020. At the gala, our FHPW Educational Foundation also awards scholarships to deserving women to continue their education for professional Growth. The scholarship applications are now being reviewed and award decisions will be announced by the FHPW Educational Foundation. Although education has been disrupted for all ages this spring, we hope next fall that our scholarship winners will be continuing their studies as planned.

Finally, we still have opportunities to serve on the FHPW Board and Gala Committee. Please contact me directly at president@fhpw.org if you are interested in a new leadership opportunity in 2020! Our April 13th FHPW Board meeting will be held virtually via Zoom. At that time, we will make a decision about the ability to host our April 27th quarterly meeting in person. Best wishes to all our member organizations for your continued health and safety.

Fall: A Note from President Liz Cloud

Thank you to everyone who was part of the Federation of Houston Professional Women’s 2019 Awards Gala. The Gala was an elegant evening as we celebrated the accomplishments of our 2019 Women of Excellence whose stories were inspiring. We met the FHPW Educational Foundation’s 2019 Scholarship Recipients as well. We thank our sponsors: Linda Hampton Norris and the Norris Conference Center, a Legacy Sponsor; our Cornerstone Benefactors: Sheri Parrack and Texas Motor Transportation Consultants and Dr. Melanie Brown, Blueprint Systems, Inc and our Fellowship Sponsors, Jill Almaguer, PE, Memorial Hermann System, Vie Mixon, CPA and Gail Prather, CPA.  Whether you are an honoree, attendee, sponsor, vendor, committee member, board member, or guest your contributions and presence contributed to creating this memorable event and your contribution is appreciated.

As we head toward our last quarterly meeting in October, I’d like to remind everyone that this year our meeting is on the third Monday, October 21. This is our annual Election meeting where the member organization delegates will vote for the 2020 Federation of Houston Professional Executive Board. We are also focusing on our members this year. You will have an opportunity to meet each of our member organizations as we invite each organization to tell you who they are, their mission and meet some of their members. We always appreciate our individual members who share their businesses with us at each meeting. This is your chance to do some early holiday shopping!

Remember all our member organizations’ members are welcome at any Federation event. This event is a great time to invite guests and any organization who would like to join the Federation. We look forward to seeing you October 21!

In appreciation,

Liz Cloud
